To strengthen sports education and advance the professional competencies, coaches and trainers from State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Region 3 Inc., have gathered at Pampanga State University’s (Pampanga State U) Dr. Ernesto T. Nicdao Sports Center for a two-day regional training starting October 29 to October 30, 2026.
University President, Dr. Enrique G. Baking highlighted that true coaching excellence extends beyond winning medals and victories, emphasizing that it is equally defined by a coach's ability to foster disciplined, resilient, and well-rounded student-athletes while prioritizing their health and overall well-being.
“Beyond developing athletic skills and strategies, coaches must understand the psychological needs of athletes, ensure their safety through appropriate emergency response, and promote physical performance through sound strength and conditioning practices.” Dr. Baking added.
On his opening message, Tarlac Agricultural University President and SCUAA Region 3 Executive Chair, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson emphasized that sports contribute to more than just physical strength and athletic ability by building discipline, resilience, teamwork, and character.
Dr. Salunson further addressed participants saying, “As coaches, you have a significant responsibility in shaping our athletes who can excel in competition and become responsible individuals in our society.”
The two-day event with the theme, “Enhancing Coaching Excellence through Sports Psychology, Basic Life Support, and Strength & Conditioning” highlights a shared commitment among regional institutions to elevate sports education, equipping coaches and trainers with the essential skills, psychological strategies, and safety practices needed to support student-athletes both in competition and in their personal development.
