Science, technology, and innovation (STI) are celebrated once again as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Pampanga and DOST-Central Luzon partnered with Pampanga State University (Pampanga State U) in hosting the 2026 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) from October 26 to 28, 2026.
With the theme “AI-Enabled Central Luzon: Shaping Smart Industries, Creative Futures, and Inclusive Growth,” the three-day event called for collaboration among government agencies, the academe, industry, communities, and young people as it featured STI initiatives through simultaneous events and activities.
Dr. Enrique G. Baking, president of Pampanga State U, welcomed the participants during the opening ceremonies, emphasizing that the role of education must go beyond the transmission of knowledge.
He challenged institutions to become spaces where ideas are transformed into solutions, research responds to real-world problems, and innovations create meaningful opportunities for communities and industries.
“This week, therefore, is more than a celebration of technological achievements. It is an opportunity for us to exchange knowledge, forge partnerships, inspire innovation, and envision solutions that are responsive to both local realities and global challenges,” Dr. Baking said,
As mentioned by Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat, Director of DOST-Central Luzon, in his opening remarks, the event was originally scheduled for September 2 to 4 but had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather and the risks it presented.
“Naturally, we wanted everything to happen as planned. But there was something more important than our original schedule: the people we serve,” Dr. Sicat said.
“This reminds us of a fundamental principle of science. We must observe, examine the evidence, and make informed decisions, even when those decisions require us to change course,” he added.
Despite the rescheduling, RSTW 2026 proceeded on its new schedule, allowing organizers to adapt and explore better ways to improve the event moving forward.
Furthermore, DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. graced the opening program as the keynote speaker, sharing his commitment to supporting STI initiatives and recounting his experiences as a national leader.
Also present during the opening ceremonies were Dr. Teodoro M. Gatchalian, DOST Undersecretary for Special Concerns; Hon. Eduardo “Diman” G. Datu, Municipal Mayor of Bacolor, Pampanga; congressional representatives; board members; municipal mayors from other Kapampangan municipalities; presidents of state colleges and universities in Central Luzon; and regional directors and leaders from various regional and national government agencies.
The 2027 RSTW is set to be hosted by DOST-Aurora in collaboration with Aurora State College of Technology.
