“The legal profession is a noble, noble profession. It demands integrity, courage, and compassion. As future members of the bar, remember that your duty is not to infringe the law, but to uphold justice and defend the rights of others.”
These words were emphasized by Mario V. Lopez, retired Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, as he addressed the first batch of Honorian Juris Doctor graduates and other completers in his keynote message during the first Midyear Commencement Exercises of Pampanga State University, held at the Dr. Ernesto T. Nicdao Sports Center on May 22, 2026.
He also commended the seven Juris Doctor graduates, offering them words of wisdom as they step into their careers.
“Whatever task or responsibility is entrusted to you, make it a habit to do better. By repeatedly doing better, ulit-ulit na gumawa ka ng mahusay, excellence becomes a habit. Once na 'yung excellence na ginawa natin [ay] nagiging habit, success often follows with rewards greater than expectations,” he said.
Lopez also highlighted the value of excellence and dedication in carrying out one’s responsibilities.
This year’s Midyear Commencement Exercises marked a significant milestone in the University’s legal education program as it presented the first seven graduates of the Juris Doctor program of University.
The historic day commenced with a Baccalaureate Mass held prior to the main ceremony, where a total of 595 candidates for graduation from the School of Law, Graduate School, and various undergraduate programs marched to receive their diplomas.
Mark Jameson E. Perez, Summa Cum Laude, Doctor of Education major in Educational Management, delivered the Message of Gratitude, challenging his fellow graduates to step into their purpose.
“If there are opportunities to lead, have the courage to rise, for leadership is not merely about holding a position—it is about becoming a source of hope, service, and transformation for others. Let us not lose hope in building a community where kindness is practiced, dignity is protected, and people genuinely care for one another.”
Bringing the ceremony to a solemn close, the graduates stood in unison to recite the pledge of loyalty and sing the university hymn, vowing to carry the institution’s values into the next chapter of their lives.
